Cinderella

ENGLISH
1. Speaking and listening
KS1
The performance gives students the opportunity to listen to the story, respond appropriately and offer feedback in class on points in the story which interest them. They can also identify and respond to sound patterns in language such as rhyme and word play used by the characters in the songs during the performance.
KS2
The performance gives students the opportunity to speak clearly on stage when asked and to respond to certain parts of the production when appropriate - for example, when students are picked to dance with the prince and when they repeat the magic spell. They can also evaluate the overall effectiveness of the performance by observing language variation and dialect forms used by the many characters in the play.
LITERATURE
The production helps pupils to develop an understanding of the structure of a story and the different types of characters portrayed within the story. For example, they will see the contrast between baddies, such as the stepmother and the step sister, and the good characters such as Cinderella and Buttons.
DRAMA
Allows students to discuss the versatility of the actors; for example, when they use body language and different voices to portray a variety of characters. KS2 students can see how light, sound, costumes and set also contribute to the overall performance.
PSHE & CITIZENSHIP
For both key stages 1 and 2 the production raises issues such as bullying, the difference between right and wrong, teamwork and friendship.

KS1 & 2
Sing the songs from the show as a group and students could perhaps try and make up their own song about Cinderella.
KS1 & 2
Get the students to create scenes from the story using their bodies. For example, tell them that the top end of the classroom is a magic canvas and they are the magic paints. Get them to tell you their favourite parts from the play and then place them on the canvas to make the picture. Once they have created the picture, get them to bring it to life.
KS1 & 2
Students could write their own fairy tale and present it in a book, complete with pictures of the different characters.
KS1 & 2
Students could make a poster advertising the King and Queen’s ball to find the prince a wife.
KS1 & 2
Tell your students to imagine they have a fairy godmother or father and that they could have three wishes. Tell them to write about what they would wish for and why or to draw a picture about their wishes.
KS2
Put the children in a circle and get them to pretend to be different characters from the play. Get them to sit in the middle of the circle in turn while the other students ask questions about their character. The children then have to try and guess which character they are.
