oliver twist

An adaption of this Charles Dickens classic

back to shows and workshops

Overview
PALS’ adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic, Oliver Twist, tells the story of an orphan boy born in a Victorian workhouse who finds himself in all sorts of trouble after falling into the clutches of a gang of pickpockets and their miserly leader, Fagin.

This energetic production is brought to life through story-telling, song and a cast of hilarious characters and is guaranteed to have your pupils asking for more.  This highly interactive show really encourages the audience to become part of the action; we even suggest the children come to school in rags for the day.

Benefits to Children's Learning & Development
This production is suitable for both key stages 1 and 2. The show is a great tool for encouraging students to read classic literature, providing them with the ideas and creativity to devise stories of their own. The production also offers a fantastic insight into the Victorian era and would be a great introduction to the topic.

The Cox Report 1989 recognises that; “Children construct the world through story”, and it also acknowledges the fun and the challenge of developing children’s “natural enthusiasms for story structures and role play.” It goes on to stress the teacher’s role in developing “interest in the act of reading” and how reading has an important role to play in improving children’s speaking, listening, and writing abilities.
