Christmas Show

Overview
Maria and her troublesome big brother, Fritz, always look forward to a magical Christmas, especially the Christmas Eve party. Each year their Great Uncle Drossellmeyer tells them mystical stories and brings them the most fascinating presents.

One year he brings a little toy Nutcracker soldier which he explains holds a mysterious legend. When the Nutcracker comes to life and saves Maria from the Evil Rat King, she soon realises that her Nutcracker soldier is truly magical.  

The pair set off on a journey deep into the forest where they meet the Sugar Plum Fairy and together they discover the wonders of a whole new world - and make a plan to defeat the Evil Rat King once and for all.

This exciting adaptation of a Christmas classic is brought to life with magic, music, audience participation and huge amounts of laughter.

Our magical version of this classic story will encourage children to use their imagination and give them the enthusiasm to write some fairy tales of their own. It gives teachers excellent material for plenty of creative writing activities.

The Cox Report 1989 recognises that, “Children construct the world through story”, and on further exploring this point, acknowledges the fun and the challenge of developing children’s ‘natural enthusiasms for story structures and role play.’ It goes on to stress the teacher’s role in developing ‘interest in the act of reading’ and how reading has an important role to play in improving abilities in speaking, listening, and writing.
